Soybean oil processing technology

September 28, 2021

Soybean oil is an edible oil extracted from soybeans. It is usually called "soybean salad oil" and is one of the commonly used edible oils. There are many types of soybean oil, which can be divided into pressed soybean oil, leached soybean oil, refined soybean oil, etc. according to the processing method. Soybean oil processing technology includes pressing soybean oil processing technology, leaching soybean oil processing technology, and refined soybean oil processing technology.

Refined soybean oil processing technology:

Crude soybean oil → filtration → hydration degumming → alkali refining and deacidification → decolorization → deodorization → finished soybean oil

Soybean oil processing process:

1. Screening

Screening uses the difference in particle size between soybeans and impurities, and with the help of the relative movement of soybeans and the sieve surface, the impurities are removed through the sieve holes. The commonly used screening equipment in edible oil processing plants includes vibrating screens, plane rotary screens, and rotating screens.

2. Winnowing

The method of separating impurities in soybeans by wind is called winnowing. Winnowing can be used to remove light impurities and dust in soybeans, it can also be used to remove impurities such as metals and stones, and it can also be used to separate the shells after peeling. Generally, the air separation equipment selected by edible oil processing plants is mostly used in conjunction with screening equipment, such as suction flat screens, vibrating cleaning screens, flat rotary screens, etc., equipped with air separation devices.

3. Specific gravity to stone

Specific gravity stone removal is based on the difference in the specific gravity and suspension speed of soybeans and stones, and the combined effect of the inclined screen surface with required movement characteristics and the airflow passing through the screen surface is used to achieve the purpose of grading stone removal.

4. Magnetic separation

Magnetic separation is a method of using magnetic force to remove magnetic metal impurities in soybean oil. General magnetic separation equipment includes permanent magnetic drum magnetic separator, cylindrical magnetic separator, drum type iron suction machine, and charged electromagnetic iron suction machine.

5. Broken

Soybeans need to be crushed before rolling. Through crushing, the soybean has the required particle size to meet the rolling conditions, and the surface area of the soybean after crushing is increased, which is beneficial to the transfer of temperature and moisture during softening, and the softening effect is accelerated. Commonly used crushing equipment includes toothed roller crusher, hammer crusher and so on.

6. Soften

Soybeans have low oil content and poor plasticity. Soybeans are generally softened before embryo rolling. Commonly used softening equipment includes layered softening pot and drum softening pot.

7. Rolling embryo

Embryo rolling is a process in which soybeans are pressed from grains into flakes by mechanical action. Generally, the thickness of the rolled embryo of soybean is less than 0.3mm.

8. Extrusion

Extrusion is the process of using the extrusion equipment to transform the crushed, rolled or whole grain oil into porous expanded pellets, which is beneficial to speed up the oil yield.

9. Leaching

The processing technology of leaching soybean oil is to use a solvent that can dissolve oil, through the effects of wetting and penetration, molecular diffusion and convection diffusion, to extract the oil from the soybean embryo, and then separate the mixed oil composed of the solvent and the oil. To recover the solvent to obtain crude oil, the solvent in the soybean meal must also be recovered to obtain the leached meal.

10. Refining

Soybean oil refining is the refining of soybean oil. The refined soybean oil processing technology is to process soybean crude oil through degumming, deacidification, decolorization, deodorization and other processes to obtain finished soybean oil.
